Somerset Golf Captains is delighted to advise our members that we will be supporting Somerset Prostate Support Association (SPSA) over the coming 12 months or so. The Association acts as a much-needed source of help for Somerset men diagnosed with prostate cancer and their families. Importantly, SPSA also organises regular free testing events for men over the age of 40 throughout Somerset in an endeavour to detect prostate cancer early and save lives.
Peter Hopwood, the Chairman of SPSA, will be speaking briefly at the SGC Annual Dinner on 6th March 2026 about what it does. We will also be holding a silent auction of some 4 ball vouchers that night to support SPSA and we have some further plans for 2026 and 2027:
- Mendip Spring Golf Club will be running a Charity Open Golf event on Thursday 3rd September 2026 followed by a free PSA testing day on Saturday 5th Please try and support this golf event if you can or go along for a test on the 5th.
- Somerset Golf Captains will be holding a match between two teams of our members representing the 2026 Captain and Captain Elect, at Saltford Golf Club on Sunday 4th April 2027. SPSA will also be holding a free PSA testing event at Saltford on the day. This inaugural match will see the two teams compete for the “Perpetual Trophy” which was first played for at the SGC away weekend which sadly no longer takes place. The Secretary will issue a calling notice for availability for this event nearer the time.
